Who’s who in the new European Commission?

Meet the new European Commission.

Ursula von der Leyen has assembled a new team of 26 European Commissioners to steer the powerful executive into a five-year chapter of sheer unpredictability.
The new College, set to take office on 1 December, has its work cut out, with a myriad of formidable challenges at home and abroad.
Reviving the EU’s stagnant economy, unlocking investment in new technologies, curbing irregular migration, fulfilling the Green Deal goals, boosting defence capabilities, strengthening the rule of law, reforming the multiannual budget and ensuring long-term support for Ukraine will be among the Commission’s top priorities.
“Our fight for freedom may look different to generations past. But the stakes are just as high,” von der Leyen told the European Parliament as she sought the final confirmation.
“These freedoms will not come for free. It will mean making difficult choices. It will mean massive investment in our security and prosperity. And above all it will mean staying united and true to our values. Finding ways to work with each other – and overcoming fragmentation,” she added.
“This is what I – and all 26 women and men with me – will strive for every single day. We are ready to get to work immediately.”
